Welcome

Hello, and welcome to my README! This document is an introduction to who I am while providing a high level understanding of my leadership philosophy, approach, and expectations as a Manager. Please note, that I am always learning new best practices and approaches to different situations which allows me to have evolving perspectives. As I do, I plan to refine this personal guide as I continue to grow. For now, let this document serve as a blueprint until we get a chance to meet or have a conversation directly.

What I value most

Trust

I believe in bringing one's whole self to the team. When team members are willing to share ideas and be vulnerable they remove the boundaries from building true reciprocal trust. Without trust the other values listed below cannot fall into place.

Transparency

I will strive to always be upfront and honest with you while sharing as much detail that is appropriate. This applies to both good news and difficult matters. Above all, clarity is kindness.

Co-Ownership

We are a team, and the projects we have, we own together. For a healthy team, team members need to be ready to extend a helping hand, share insights and expertise, and deliver constructive feedback.

Making an impact

Knowing and understanding the impact of what our team is working on is critical to managing priorities, being motivated, and staying connected. What gets measured, gets managed — and that applies to not only project work, but also for the team and individuals.

Empathy

Developing empathy and understanding within a team involves taking the time to recognize each other's perspectives, needs, and priorities through active listening and support. When team members feel heard and valued, they are more likely to be invested in the team's overall success.

Growth

As a team, it is important to reflect regularly on project work, communication, and our processes. We must celebrate our wins, but also call out where things could have gone better. We must relentlessly ask ourselves why something failed and come up with actionable items to improve.

Humor

Incorporating humor doesn't mean turning every interaction into a comedy show; it means using humor thoughtfully and contextually to create a positive and engaging atmosphere for everyone. I believe that with a healthy dose of humor, a team can not only be more productive, but also be more connected, motivated, and resilient to challenges.

Management Style

I identify strongly with the "Servant-Leader" model which emphasizes empowerment, collaboration, and a strong focus on helping others through active listening and creating a culture of trust where ideas are shared openly. I trust and empower team members to raise concerns, share ideas, and find solutions to tough problems that we can discuss as a team. I believe that with this management style and by exercising the values listed above, we will be a more resilient and efficient team.

My role as manager

I'm here to help ensure the team is functioning as best it can, that project execution is aligned with the business needs, and that we are continuously improving both our services and ourselves. Listed below are some examples of how I try to do this.

  • Set effective and measurable goals on both the team and individual levels
  • Consistently evaluate team processes for efficiency and refine them
  • Ensure a healthy team diet of feature work, bug work, and technical debt work
  • Giving recognition and celebrating our wins
  • Making sure that team members feel fulfilled and enjoy the work they are doing
